When a vehicle is seized or impounded by a police officer, it is stored at the municipal pound.

STORED OR SEIZED VEHICLE
STORAGE
- To retrieve a vehicle from the municipal pound, its owner or the owner’s representative with a power of attorney, must go to the police station during business hours. The one who is to drive the vehicle must have a valid driver’s license. Once the required charges have been paid, the vehicle can be released. If the vehicle is barred by the SAAQ from being driven, it must be towed away from the pound.
SEIZURE
- When a vehicle is seized, the owner receives a notice showing the date on which it can be released. As of that date, the vehicle’s owner or the owner’s representative with a power of attorney, can go to the police station during business hours to have it released. Once the required charges have been paid, he can leave with the vehicle. The person who is to drive the vehicle must have a valid driver’s license. Once the required charges have been paid, the vehicle can be released. If the vehicle is barred by the SAAQ from being driven, it must be towed away.
CONTESTING A TICKET

SUBMITTING A NOT-GUILTY PLEA
If you wish to contest a ticket, note your plea on the reply form attached to the ticket. The plea must be sent to the address shown on the form.
To submit a preliminary request in order to prepare your defence, present it along with your not-guilty plea, as provided in articles 168 to 186 of Code of Criminal Procedure.
You will be notified by the court clerk in the appropriate jurisdiction of the place, date and time set for the hearing.
